Day 1 – The Heart of Thought

“Keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honourable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind”. Philippians 4:8 TPT
How often do we read this verse and yet, do we ever stop to truly consider how to practically live this instruction?
One of the most important things I have learned about the Christian life is that all sin begins in our thoughts, which the Bible often calls “the heart.”
In Proverbs 23:7 the Word tells us that “as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
To think “in the heart” is way more than just fleeting thoughts! Heart thoughts are created by repetitive, focused, and meditative (pondering) thoughts, which we can practice deliberately or foolishly if we ignore the fact that “We become what we think about”.
It is our instruction to “not be conformed any longer to this world but be transformed by the renewing of the mind” (Rom 12:2); so we know that the training of the thought-life is a deliberate practice of obedience in our walk with God.
Knowing we are instructed to “think on these things” and “take every thought captive” (2 Corinthians 10:5), we know which things to let in. Entry to all else should be refused.
Paul gives us insight and a checklist as to what we should direct our thoughts continually towards and confirms that we should “fasten our thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising Him always.”
Prayer: Father, prepare my heart and mind to receive and embrace the wisdom gifts You have given us to train our thoughts in obedience to You. Teach me to fasten my thoughts on You and a-tune my heart to think as You want me to think. I pray this in the precious and glorious Name of Jesus. Amen.
