Day 10 – All that is Respectful, Excellent and Praiseworthy
I’m enjoying this exploration of areas of “thought focus” in Philippians 4:8 because we read the list, but seldomly truly consider how to practically apply it. If we are to focus our thoughts practically and continually, going deeper in understanding will result in greater success in directing our thoughts.
To understand “all that is respectful” alternative translations offer us “Excellent” and “Praiseworthy” as guides.
Something that is excellent is the “best of the best”. Even in an environment where there are high standards, only the select stand out as truly excellent. Understandably then that “excellence” is to be respected or praised.
The God we serve is an excellent God. When He created the world, He made it to be very good. When He blesses us, He blesses us abundantly and graciously. And when it came time that He would give the sacrifice that would justify the whole world, He gave His very best – His only begotten Son.
Again, we are encouraged to focus our thoughts on God with respect and praise for His excellence.
Psalm 150:2: “Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness.”
Prayer: Precious Lord, how mighty are Your deeds and excellent Your greatness. Thank You for always giving us your very best. Amen.
