Day 11 – Servant

“Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my Beloved, who pleases me. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.” Matthew 12:18 NLT

When Jesus stepped into the role of a servant, it was a great challenge to the leadership model of the time, which was ruled and regaled by the religious dictators of the Hebrews. Jesus laid His majesty aside to communicate God’s love in a lifestyle of servanthood.

Isaiah prophesied (42:1-4) that Jesus would come as a servant. Jesus said of Himself, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). Jesus set the example by showing that greater is He who serves than the one sitting at the table. The convincing factor was not His words, but His altogether wonderful actions of servanthood.

The role of a servant being greater was such a foreign concept to the experienced leaders of the time (and still today), that it was a revelation to some and a challenge to others.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the example of servanthood through Your Servant who showed us what Your love looks like. Thank You, Jesus, that Your actions are an example we can model our lives to serve others. Amen.

Love, Pastor Iriza
