Day 12 – Deepest depths
“I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O Lord my God, snatched me from the jaws of death!” Jonah 2:6
Graham Cooke said, “The depths of the valleys we walk are in direct correlation to the heights that God wants to take us to.” A very bold statement indeed and if I look back at the deepest valleys I walked through, I should be dancing on mountain tops reaching well beyond our atmosphere. You cannot “claim” these heights because you did time in the valley – but you can climb to the heights God has for you regardless of the valley you walked through. Jonah knew this well when He composed this prayer. Do not lose hope, faith, and endurance when the mountain suddenly feels like a valley. You might feel that everything is getting worse and climbing this moment is in vain, but just like God snatched Jonah from the jaws of death – He will for you too.
Your mountain may equal the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and it may be daunting and fearful, but I can assure you that the view God has in mind for you when you reach the summit will overshadow the valleys with His brilliant Glory.
Prayer: Father, thank You for valleys and mountains and that through each season of our lives, we grow closer to You. I ask today that You will snatch us from the jaws of death when we feel we are sinking down to the very roots of the mountains. Remind us today that nothing is impossible for You and that no prison can keep You from reaching us. Amen.
