Day 18 – You are with me when I wake
“If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.” Psalm 139:18 NKJV
Following David’s thread of God’s thoughts towards us, he concludes that it would be more than the number of sand. None of us can ever count every grain of sand on this planet, but God knows the exact number and His thoughts about us exceed it by far. Our thoughts are the first thing the enemy attacks. He does not want us to think about God, nor does he want us to know about God’s precious thoughts towards us.
Well, I can testify (and I am sure a few of you can too) about thoughts being under attack and I love that David brought in the moment of waking. See, I am not a morning person. While I wake, the enemy thinks it’s fair game to come full force at my thoughts. I asked the Holy Spirit to please help me in the mornings to take these thoughts captive and replace them with thoughts of God focusing my first alert moments on Him. This was not an easy, “overnight” turn of events. I had to really focus on the thoughts coming in, pray to take them captive in the Name of Jesus, and know that while I am waking, I am with God.
Beloved, you are still with God in your most vulnerable moments while waking. Tomorrow when waking, focus all your thoughts on God, not just in prayer, but about what you are thinking.
Let’s pray: Father, thank You that in the mornings when I wake up, I know that I am still with you. Thank You that You taught me to protect my thoughts when waking while I am vulnerable and not yet fully alert. May the focus of my first thought every morning be about You. Amen.
