Day 2 – How can I find wisdom?
James 1:5 “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
Is it really as simple as that? Can I just ask God for this precious gift? King Solomon was known as the wisest man alive. The Lord declared that no one before Solomon, nor in the ages to come, would equal him in wisdom. He was revered by his nation, and kings and queens from all over had a high regard for him because of his wisdom. However, Solomon wasn’t born a wise man. Let’s see where his wisdom came from.
As we saw yesterday, God was pleased with King Solomon and said that He would give him anything he asked for. What an offer! Solomon could have asked for great power to rule the world; everlasting protection and provision for his kingdom, or unlimited wealth. Instead, Solomon recognised his lack of experience and wisdom. It seems that he felt somewhat overwhelmed by the awesome responsibility of leading “a great people who cannot be counted”.
“Give Your servant an understanding mind and a hearing heart … that I may discern between good and bad.” The request of a man who acknowledged that he needed to trust in God if he wanted to be successful.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I bow my knees before You; I humbly acknowledge that I, too, need Your wisdom and guidance. I cannot handle these challenges today without hearing from You first. You know my future and You know what the best course of action is for me to take. Please grant me Your supernatural wisdom. Amen.
