Day 2 – Now faith is the conviction of hope’s reality

Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things we hope for, being the proof of things we do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].”

Like anything else, faith needs to have a foundation for it to be strong. Faith is an intricate force, yet simple in its operation. Take a chair for example. When you approach your favourite armchair, do you doubt that it will support you? Would you rather avoid sitting in it in case it will fail you today? No, you have sat in that chair often. You are assured of its strength. You have confidence that it will hold you.

Faith is the assurance, the confidence that in falling back in the Father’s arms, you will be caught safely. Faith perceives as fact what is not revealed to the senses. It is believing before seeing. What is the foundation, then?

Relationship – how well do I know my heavenly Father? Have I experienced His faithfulness to His word? Just as we have built a solid confidence in that chair by spending much time in it and experiencing its faithful strength, so we need to get to know our heavenly Father to build confidence in Him. This is the only way to know that He is Who He says He is. May I encourage you today to get to know Him!

Prayer:  Dear Father, You are the King of kings and the Lord of lords, Creator of heaven and earth – and yet in Your greatness, You love me and want to have fellowship with me! I desire to know You more. Help me to lay aside the distractors that hinder me from intimacy with You, and please reveal to me Who You really are. I long to know You! Amen.
