Day 3 – Faithful
“Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies”, KJV. The NLT version says “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies”. Proverbs 31:10
In verse 10, King Lemuel’s mother shares the foundational attributes of a wife. The very essence of what makes a good wife and mother but also a good businesswoman, provider, and caregiver. I have first-hand experience raising children without a proper foundation that ended in brokenness. Any household, organization, church, or country will not function to its full potential if the foundation is not firmly in place.
Now, you can argue your upbringing was not good and it is your parent’s fault that you are who you are. I agree that your upbringing or lack thereof will influence who you are today, but I believe that your past does not determine your further.
King Lemuel’s mother was a wise woman who wanted her son to be a noble king serving God and the people above himself. The name Lemeul means “for God” or “devoted to God”. With such a well-thought-out name I can assume his mother knew the Lord well and understood the attributes of a godly Queen for her son.
The word “virtuous” means a woman of integrity, discipline, a hard worker, who respects her husband, and more. “Noble” is the translation of the Hebrew word “chorim”, which means “free born”. Noble also means woman of strength, honorable, respectable, and dignified. King Lemuel’s mother said a virtuous and noble wife is worth far more than rubies. The importance of a woman in a household is more valuable than any money or jewels because you cannot put a value on a mother’s hugs and love.
Matthew 17:20 “He replied, because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there; and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”. The most important attribute King Lemuel’s mother pointed out is that she must have faith! We should have so much faith in the plans God has for our lives that turbulent times cannot derail it, but strengthen it. Without faith, you cannot be your best self. But with the Holy Spirit in us and Jesus for us and God our Father and our King we are perfect in an unperfected world.
Faith will set you free and is a testimony to others without saying a word. Virtuous and valuable women fear the Lord and seek His wisdom daily.
Prayer: Dear Lord, make me a faithful woman who believes that a mountain can move with faith in me. Strengthen my faith so it can be a beacon of my attributes and lead me, Jesus, so I can live in the godly standards You want for us. Thank you for thinking of me as a valuable woman. Amen.
