Day 4 – Endurance

“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:2-4 NLT

Naturally, we do not see a season of climbing as a rescue plan to take us from our circumstances to victory. It is an opportunity to find Godly freedom we have not experienced before. As we grow weary it becomes difficult to find peace, clarity, vision, and refreshment as our faith is tested with each step.

Endurance means to have the ability to endure an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way, or the capacity of something to last or to withstand wear and tear.  It is in moments of exhaustion that our endurance grows alongside our faith to reach the top. Like faith, it is something we as Christians need to nurture and develop during our relationship growth with Jesus, because only with Him we can become perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Endurance also hints toward patience. You do not need endurance for something you achieve in an instant. Climbing a mountain is not a hop and a skip and you are at the top. It is constant, energy-draining, hard work to reach the summit – which requires enduring patience.

There is a saying: “Keep your eye on the prize” which I would like to encourage you with today, my friend. Keep your eye on God as you climb towards Him and when you feel exhausted, rely on your endurance and let it grow with you as progress upward on the mountain face.

Prayer: Father, thank You for showing us that endurance is vital to our spiritual walk and especially when climbing mountains. May it be opportunities of great joy because we know You are the source of our endurance and that the plan You have with this mountain will be revealed through Your Glory. Amen.
