Day 5 – Chains of victimhood

“He led them from the darkness and deepest gloom; He snapped their chains. Let them praise the Lord for His great love and the wonderful things He has done for them. For He broke down their prison gates of bronze; He cut apart their bars of iron.” Psalm 107:14-16

The mountain you are fighting to climb can be the very thing that chains you in a cycle of victimhood. The word alone makes one think that you have already lost the battle and are now branded by the world as broken and damaged. We encourage honesty, but there is a tightrope between climbing our mountain and nestling into the cycle of victimhood.

We acknowledge our struggles and the world congratulates us giving us a free pass to self-pity. Suddenly, you are the center of all attention because of what happened and you start focusing on yourself and the situation rather than focusing on Jesus. This is a dangerous snare and the shackles of victimhood restrict you from climbing any further. I am not saying to not speak up or confide in people you trust, please do this because their prayers are a lifeline of security. I am saying to always bring everything to God first because only He can lead you out of darkness and the deepest gloom, snapping EVERY chain. Do not allow the enemy to lure you into self-pity by shifting your focus from the Chainbreaker to yourself. Praise Him in the darkness! Praise Him in the deepest gloom!

A Kingdom mindset does not line up with victimhood. You can climb from victimhood to victory if you allow Him to lead you and break the chains. Your story is a testimony waiting to be told so others can see God’s hand in it and lead them out of similar situations.

Friend, climb your mountain without chains.

Prayer: Father, thank You that I know that Your hand is in every detail of my life and that I have learned that I am not a victim of what happened but a victor because of Jesus. Thank You for breaking the chains and cycle of victimhood in my life and my prayer is that You will do the same for those reading these words and feel the tug of the Holy Spirit in their hearts. Break every chain in the Name of Jesus. May they climb their mountain without any restrictions. Amen.
