Day 4 – I am HIS MASTERPIECE

Esther was a young beautiful girl, she aspired to have dreams like all of us do growing up.  She did not imagine for one second that one day she would be taken captive to the King’s harem. The Bible does not explicitly say what she thought or what she felt. But we can all imagine the uncertainty going through her mind.

The King was to choose a new queen.  If you were not chosen, you would not be released to go back home but you would stay in the King’s harem.  But God is a God who is faithful, and He does not forget His plans or thoughts concerning us. God had set a plan in motion long before the Jewish people would know that their lives were in danger.

God was positing his own Masterpiece where He knew she would be needed for God’s plan of salvation and redemption of His people to take place.  Esther found favour very quickly with the king’s eunuch, Hegai, and he was very quick to give Esther special treatment. Each girl was allowed to choose clothing or jewellery from the harem. She had asked Hegai what he would suggest she take, and she willingly took his advice, and did as he suggested, and Esther was admired by everyone who saw her.  Who would not admire a Masterpiece made by God?

The king was to taken with Esther, he fell in love and loved her more than any of the younger women.  He declared her Queen.  But Esther’s joy was to be short-lived because Haman wanted to plot against the Jews and terminate them. Her uncle Mordecai told her she needed to plead and intercede before the King on behalf of her people, the Jews.

Esther was afraid and she responded that she did not know how could she help? The King had not asked to see her in 30 days and she was not allowed to enter the King’s presence without his invitation and holding out his scepter.  She would be going against the law and was in danger of losing her life because of this.

Her uncle Mordecai reminded her, that she was put in that palace, with that position for such a time as that.  God had placed her there.  She asked the Jews to fast and pray with her and for her for 3 days.  God’s Masterpiece was ready to face her King.  She had all her faith in her God, her life was in God’s hands. She went to the inner court and the King saw Esther. He welcomed her and held out his gold sceptre towards her.  What a faithful God we serve!  His goodness follows us.  He is so, so good to us!

Sometimes we don’t understand God’s plans or direction for our life.  Sometimes we don’t understand how God can be in control when everything around us is not and seems lost.  But we need to remember that we are God’s Masterpiece. A work of art so delicately woven together in our mother’s womb.

You have been placed and put here for such a time as this.  You are His Masterpiece.
