Day 5 – A fan focuses on an event, a follower focuses on the bigger picture

“And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls? And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit? If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?” Luke 12:22 – 26 (KJV)
A fan and a follower usually both depend on Jesus. The difference is, the fan will focus on events in their lives and trust Jesus to get them through these events. Usually, when going through tough times, a fan will trust Jesus to “help them through”. They will call on God, quoting famous scriptures, and sometimes even almost “blackmail” God, by saying things like “You promised you will never leave me” and “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. They are sometimes so worried about the small things, like what to eat and what to wear that they lose focus of the bigger picture.
As we see in this scripture, Jesus tells us not to worry about little things like what we should eat or what we should put on, we should depend and trust on God for everything we need. Of course, we need to depend on Jesus, but the difference is, a follower stays focused on Jesus, always! Not just through tough times, and not just when they have nowhere else to turn to.
A follower spends time with Jesus every day, to build the relationship stronger and stronger and to get to know Jesus’ heart for them. The follower doesn’t treat God like a genie, who can make their wishes come true. They realize that focusing on Jesus, His Kingdom and His return to us is the only important thing. Through everything in our lives, we should always stay focussed on this.
Prayer: Jesus thank you for reminding me today of the bigger picture I need to stay focussed on. I am sorry for the times I only called on You when I was in trouble. Please help me to stay focused on You always. Thank you for Your love, Father, and that you will always care for me, in the big and the small things. Amen.
