Day 6 – Fans are in it for them, followers are in it for God

“For I have no man likeminded who will naturally care for your state. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ. But ye know the proof of Him.” Philippians 2:21-22 (KJV)

You can be a fan of many people, enjoying who they are, but you can only truly follow one. Being someone’s fan does not change you, it does not renew your mind or make you new. Being a fan is about how it makes you feel to be a fan. You might feel inspired and motivated by this person you put on a pedestal. This fascination usually only lasts a while, then you start looking for someone new you can become a fan of.

Being a follower of the One changes you. When you follow one person, they become your master and you learn their ways. When you become a follower, your perspective changes. You are not so much concerned with your own wants, but much more with the one you are following.

Your mind mindset changes to a mindset of service, instead of being served. Suddenly, your focus is on God and the plans He has for you and His Kingdom. When you follow Jesus, you first seek the Kingdom of God, before anything else. Your whole being is about serving Him and His plans for you. If you shift your focus to being a follower of Jesus and making everything about Him, He will do everything for your good. Isn’t that just so encouraging and incredible? He makes it so worth it for us to be His follower.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that I can be changed and I can shift my focus to be on You all the time, just by following You. Thank You for blessing me and loving me so much that I can’t even fathom it. Please help me keep my focus on You always. Amen.

Prayer: Thank you Lord that I can be changed and I can shift my focus to be on You all the time. Thank you for blessing me and loving me so much that I can’t even fathom it. Please help me keep my focus always on You and never on what is in it for me.
