Day 6 – Generous House

“One who is gracious to a poor man lends to the Lord, And He will repay him for his good deed. “ Proverbs 19:17
Once a year, normally around the break of spring, my family starts an escape plan the moment I start arranging boxes in every room. They know it’s time to start “spring cleaning”. I have a simple philosophy: if you have not used something in the past year, it goes in the box. Not just do I get rid of clutter, but donate it to several charity organizations or families I know of in need. Clothes, shoes, blankets, toys, kitchenware, and furniture are well received.
From a young age, I took my children with when on a donation run. They soon learned there are children who would appreciate a toy or pretty dress – instead of it gathering dust in a dark corner of their closet. Being gracious and charitable to the needy is serving the Lord by serving His children. From one house serving the Lord to another; helping each other to be encouraged and keep their hope and faith in the Lord.
You might look around at what you own and think, “I do not have much to give”. Friend, what you have is what God blessed you with and belongs to Him. If He asks you to generously give to someone else, He will repay you for your good deed as promised in His Word. A House generously giving serves the Lord.
Prayer: Father, I sometimes hold on to possessions without any logical reason except that sometimes it holds a special value. Father, open my eyes and show me what I do not need and to whom I can generously give according to their need. As I de-clutter my house, let me also de-clutter my soul. Amen.
