Day 6 – Lack to Abundance

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over” Psalm 23:5
Stress feeds from multiple situations and scenarios. When you start stressing about one thing, seemingly insignificant situations magnify and add to your stressed situation. Verse 5 holds three distinctive promises:
At the Lord’s table.
Because we have a mutual enemy, the devil, we will always have enemies threatening the borders of our peace causing stress. But in their midst, God prepares a table for you. At His table, there is no stress, only an abundance of life and love.
Anoint my head with oil.
In the shepherd days, there was no such thing as pesticides. Shepherds used to rub the heads of sheep with oil to remove ticks, fleas and other pests clogging at the ears causing discomfort to the sheep. They would violently shake their heads driving them to a point of madness to try and rid themselves of these pests. Likewise, God anoints our heads with oil to rid our minds of pests trying to infiltrate our thoughts and whispering lies adding to our stress levels. The helmet of salvation is a weapon we can see as God’s anointing on our heads.
My cup runs over.
Having little or a lack to provide is one of the biggest contributors to extremely high-stress levels. But when we get stressed because we feel our cups are close to empty, God makes it run over. Whether you have a teacup or one of those big Wimpy coffee mugs, it WILL run over. There is no limitation to God’s provision. When you feel your cup is getting empty, see it as making space for God’s overflowing abundance.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the promises of Your Word that I can hold on to when I feel threatened by enemies, attached in my thoughts, or stressed about a lack of provision. You take these stressful things and turn them for my good to always keep a focused and calm mind on You. Amen.
