Day 4 – From generation to generation

“Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;” Exodus 20:5 (KJV)
Curses are very often passed down from generation to generation. It is born out of sin or iniquities that are not repented and therefore not forgiven by God and thus gave authority to the enemy for the following generations as well. The evil cycle is – that due to the curse – oftentimes the new generation repeats the same sin and therefore the authority stays with the devil. This is also often seen as a generational trait or bloodline curse and often people will say “It runs in the family”, not realizing this “it” is a curse and the entire bloodline can be freed from it. For example, if someone in your bloodline visited a fortuneteller, they opened a door to witchcraft and a possible curse. If someone then spoke a curse over that person or their family, the curse will have cause and will take action in your family.
Another example is if your grandfather spoke curses over your father, saying he will never be good enough or accomplish anything in life, your father might say the same to you. Not because he means to curse you, but because he is doing what he thinks a father does because that is the only father figure he knew. Now you find yourself saying the same thing to your children. This is a curse, whether it was intended as a curse or not. The good news is, we can choose to say “It might have run in the family, but it stops with me.”
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for loving me enough to show me the iniquities in my family line. Please forgive my sins and please show me the sins in my bloodline that are not yet forgiven and giving authority to the enemy. I want to be free from them. Please give me the discernment to see the sins and repent from them, so that my whole family can be free. Amen
