Day 3 – A curse will have a cause

“As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.” Proverbs 26:2 (KJV)

This beautiful verse from Proverbs tells us that a causeless curse will not come, and it will not “sit” on you. In other words, a causeless curse will have to bounce off you and return to its sender. As wonderful as this is, it is also unnerving, because it means that if there is a curse, it had a cause meaning somewhere in our (or our forefathers’ bloodline) there was sin that gave authority to the curse to come into our lives.

This is easier to understand if you understand the authority you have in Christ, and also the authority we give the enemy when we sin. You see in Genesis God gave authority over the earth to Adam. When Adam and Eve listened to the serpent and disobeyed God, they gave their God-given authority away. By sinning, we give our authority to Satan. Through this we allow him to do in our lives as he pleases, which is kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10).

If you suspect a curse over any area of your life, the only way to find it is to ask Jesus and the Holy Spirit to bring it to the light. Ask them to show you where and what the sin was that gave authority to this curse to come into your life and then repent for this sin. Ask the Lord’s forgiveness and ask Him to wash it clean from his books, but also the books of the enemy, so that you can be free from this curse. Jesus died on the cross so that we can be free, but we do need to repent of our sins and accept His forgiveness.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for dying on the cross to free us from all curses. Please show me where there is a curse over my life, as well as the cause for the curse. I want to be free and washed clean in front of your throne. Please show me what sins are not repented for yet so that I can beg for your forgiveness and be pure before you. Amen
