A Ruth Relationship – Day 12
Open invitation
“At mealtime Boaz called to her, ‘Come over here, and help yourself to some food. You can dip your bread in the sour wine.’ So she sat with his harvesters, and Boaz gave he some roasted grain to eat. She ate all she wanted and still had some left over.” Ruth 2:14 (NLT)
Constantly God is inviting us to sit at his table. In Psalm 23 God says he prepares a feat for you in the presence of your enemies. In Song of Solomon He brings you to the banqueting house, and His banner over you is Love. The last supper with Jesus was at a table where He washed His disciple’s feet and blessed them and told them about the way forward. And in Revelations the angel says “Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.”
In those days, (and even in today’s Jewish custom) when you, as a stranger or foreigner, are invited to the table – it’s sign of acceptance, respect and countenance. You are considered the guest of honour. At Gods table, all your needs are provided for. While you sit at His table, your enemies are taken care of. You are under His banner of Love. You receive guidance and wisdom and you have the biggest invitation to sit with Him at the marriage supper of the Lamb. At God’s table, you can help ourselves to whatever He gives – your daily Bread and living Water. (And have left over to give to others too!)
Ruth Relationship Advice: You have an open invitation to the table of God as the apple of His eye.
Prayer: Father, thank You for allowing me a seat at Your table and that I can find more than nourishment but have left over for others too. Amen.
