Day 107 – True greatness means top priority

Study Luke 9:59-60

“Then He said to another, ‘Follow Me.’ But he said, ‘Lord, let me first go and bury my father.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.’” Luke 9:59-60

When Jesus called another man to follow Him, the man replied with what sounded like a reasonable request: “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” This didn’t mean his father was lying dead at home waiting for a funeral; it meant, “Let me wait until my elderly father dies, I receive my inheritance, and settle my affairs, and then I will follow You.”

Jesus’ response sounds severe, but it highlights a vital truth: following Christ demands absolute, top priority. Earthly responsibilities and family ties are important, but nothing can be allowed to sit ahead of our immediate obedience to the King and His kingdom. Jesus requires first place in our hearts.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, forgive me for putting earthly distractions and delays ahead of my obedience to You. Help me to give You the unquestioned top priority in my life today. Amen. ©

Love, Iriza
