Day 2 – The foundation

“For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11 (ESV)

Builders will tell you that the key to a good building is not the architecture, but the foundation. As Christians, we have the best foundation we could ever ask for: Jesus Christ. Is there really any other foundation you would want to build your relationship with your Creator on?

Before we make the choice to disciple, mentor, lead, or teach anyone, we need to ensure our foundation is rock solid. I’ve always believed you cannot help from a position from hurt and brokenness. Sometimes, we believe we are okay, because we put a band-aid on the broken instead of dealing with the roots – which is where the term “hurt people only hurt people” comes from.

The first step in this journey, is to understand your foundation and yourself. To grasp that self-examination (in light of scripture) is an important and regular discipline to make sure our hearts are constantly pointed towards Jesus. The foundation of our faith is paved through scripture too. In Exodus God gave His commandments (not to control Israel), but to give them moral stones on which to build and grow. And these we have as our moral compass too. Nothing has changed since then. If the recipe for the foundation is flawless, why try to change it. Trust God, and trust the process.

Prayer: Father, thank You so much for giving us tools and skills through Your Word on which we can rely and build our faith on. Thank You, Jesus, for being our foundation and that You gave Your live to make it happen. Guide us through this journey to trust You with our brokenness and my prayer is that You will heal so we can start wholeheartedly to step up as Titus 2 women for the Kingdom. Amen.
