Day 21 – Why did you doubt Me?
“You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” Matthew 14:31b
I used to think this reprimand was a little harsh on Peter… I mean, he did get out of the boat – he took a leap of faith! But between Jesus saving him and returning to the boat’s safety, Jesus’s words were for Peter.
In my life (and I am sure I am not the only one raising a hand here) there have been times I have doubted where my faith was the size of an atom compared to a mustard seed. Not because I did not believe Jesus would save me, but because the enemy convinced me I was unsavable in the storm, that God has more important matters (like running the universe!) to bother Himself with me drowning in the storm. But this is far from the truth. You matter to God. You, lovely one, are His child and as mentioned in the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus will come to save you.
In my “little faith” moments, Jesus did not announce my doubt for all to hear. He worked with my heart, showing me my doubt and the Holy Spirit leading me to repentance of my doubt. The miracles He has worked in my life outweighs my doubt and I have an unshakable faith in Jesus.
Prayer: Father, thank You for teaching us that in the moments of little faith and doubt – You do not shame us for it, but draw us closer to You. I pray today that the Holy Spirit will point out the areas in our life where we still have doubt and that we have the wisdom in You to replace it with an unshakable faith. Amen.
