Day 285 – 1 Thessalonians: Watchfulness for the Lord
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 NLT
Read 1 Thessalonians 4:1 to 1 Thessalonians 5:28
No one knows the time of Christ’s return. With the latest rapture predictions and mayhem around it, I was reminded of this very fact. No one knows. Until that glorious day, we are to live virtuous and holy lives, ever watchful for His coming. Do not neglect daily responsibilities, but always work and live to please the Lord. The gospel is not only what we believe, but how we should live. The Holy Spirit leads us in faithfulness so that we can avoid living unfaithful lives. Live as though you expect Christ to return at any second.
One day, all believers, both those who are alive and those who have died, will be united with Christ upon His return. What a beautiful hope!
Prayer: Father, thank You that we can put our hope in the return of Jesus Christ – and what a glorious day that will be. May we look for this moment with prepared anticipation and until that day, live our lives for You every second of the day. Amen.
