Day 3 – A fan does not really know the truth about their idol
“And I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.”Jeremiah 24:7 (KJV)
If you are a fan of a celebrity, you don’t really know the person. All you know about them is the snippets of information you read in the media about them. You never experience them for yourself as a person and see if the stories you hear are true or not. So often in the media, there are false narratives created for the sake of creating drama and drawing attention.
We also sometimes only know snippets of Jesus, either the parts that we hear in church, or from other people, or tidbits that we hear when quickly listening to the daily devotional on the radio. Don’t get me wrong, there is obviously nothing wrong with going to church and listening to the radio, but we can only get to know Jesus up to a point through these resources. We need to get into His word and start reading to get to know Him as well as possible.
It is not enough to try to know Him only through other people’s eyes. To really get to know someone means you have to spend time with them, listen to them, be vulnerable with them and share some of yourself with them. We should also get to know Jesus through spending time with Him and listening to His voice, asking Him for guidance and direction.
Prayer: Abba Father, thank you for teaching me everything I need to know about You in Your word. Please remind me to read Your word more to get to know you better, instead of only believing what others say about you. Thank you for giving us Your Word. Amen.
