Day 315 – 3 John – Hospitality vs Pride

“Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.” 3 John 1:11 NLT

Read 3 John 1:1 to 3 John 1:15

John wrote to encourage those who were sincerely kind to others. Genuine hospitality for traveling Christian workers was needed then and is still important today. Faithful Christian teachers and missionaries need our support. Extending hospitality to others partners with them on their mission.

Diotrephes not only refused to offer hospitality but also set himself up as a church boss. Pride disqualified him from being a good leader. Christian leaders must shun pride and its effect on them.

Gaius and Demetrius were commended for their faithful work in the church. They were held up as examples of faithful, selfless servants. We shouldn’t take Christian workers who serve faithfully for granted. Be sure to encourage those in your life so they won’t grow weary of serving.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the examples of Gaius and Demetrius. Point out the pride in our lives so we can shun it from our lives. May the hospitality of the Holy Spirit be evident in our lives. Amen.
