Day 5 –  All that is Honorable and Noble

So far we have been looking at focusing on what is authentic, true, and real. Let’s explore the thought-focus list (Philippians 4:8) Paul gave us in more detail by looking at “all that is honorable.” The NIV says: “all that is noble.”

To be honest, the word honorable lets me think of a judge in a black robe and white curly wig with “honorable so and so presiding”; but this is not the image Paul was depicting.

What nobility effectively means is virtue. To be noble or honorable implies moral eminence and freedom from anything petty, mean, or dubious in conduct or character.

The medal of honor is given to a hero who sacrifices everything for another without regard to himself. Webster’s definition of honorable is to deserve high respect, famous, characterized by integrity and a reputation that is untarnished or unsullied.

The Greek word refers to the idea of venerable or majestic – worthy of worship.

The only one worthy of worship and adoration for His perfection is our Lord. He sacrificed everything for us and the easiest way to think on “all that is honorable” is to focus on King Jesus!

There is no greater love, nothing more noble, more honorable, more pure, more lovely and nothing more admirable and praiseworthy than the finished work one Friday 2000 years ago as our Savior called out “it is finished” in completion of the work His father gave Him to redeem us and restore us to Himself!

Prayer: Dear Abba, what a magnificent example and treasure in our sinless Savior who gave Himself for us. Alone worthy of my worship, Jesus be glorified as I continually focus on all that is honorable, virtuous, and noble in Him. Thank You for loving us so much that You sent Jesus to the cross for us. It is my privilege and greatest joy to praise You!  Amen.
