Day 5 – Divine favour with Godly wisdom

1 Kings 5:12 “The Lord gave Solomon wisdom as He promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they made a treaty.”
King Hiram of Tyre had been a friend of King David, and when Solomon was made king after David died, Hiram contacted Solomon. Solomon shared his plans of building a house for God, since there was peace on all sides.
This attracted favour for Solomon, for Hiram immediately commanded his people to cut and send cedar trees from Lebanon to Solomon, as much as he would need to build the temple. Solomon responded by saying that his servants would join those of Hiram and that he would pay them all whatever their wages were since the people from Sidon were skilled at this work. Wisdom brought him favour, but also caused him to act in fairness where he could have become greedy.
Hiram was pleased to hear this, as we see in his response: “Blessed be the Lord this day, Who has given David a wise son to be over this great people.”
King Hiram saw in Solomon the Spirit of God acting in great wisdom, and this resulted in both kingdoms flourishing and being at peace with one another.
Prayer: God eternal, You are Truth, You are Wisdom. I trust You and I surrender myself to You today. Where I lack insight, please fill me with wisdom and discernment, not only to steer my own life in the right direction, but also to be instrumental in those people around me who also need guidance. Amen.
