Day 5 – Focussed prayer

2 Chronicles 20:12 “For we have no might to stand against this great company that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”

Have you ever found yourself in such a predicament that you could cry, except that you don’t have any tears left? Are you facing a mountain so insurmountable that only a miracle can get you to the other side?

Jehoshaphat and the nation of Judah faced a real threat when three powerful armies decided to attack them. They were outnumbered by far. This was a situation where their only hope was God. The king “set himself determinedly to seek the Lord”, assembled the whole of Judah and as a nation, they sought the Lord. The Amplified says that they yearned for Him with all their desire. That is focused prayer. As one, they prayed and asked God to save them from their enemies.

For us today, it is not much different. We all have enemies of some sort that come against us to threaten us. The situations will vary, but the truth stays the same. God gave Jehoshaphat strategy and victory. And He will do so for you and me. How focussed is our prayer? We should also pray this humble, yet powerful prayer, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

Prayer: God of the angel armies, righteous King, like Jehoshaphat of old, I am facing a challenge that is impossible unless You help me. I keep having the urge to give in to fear, Lord, but with Your help, I will keep my eyes on You. Please show me what I need to do in this situation. I trust that You will give me the victory because You make all things work together for good for those who love You. Amen.
