Day 6 – Desires of the Heart

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” Psalm 37:4

Paul mentions “various passions” as a weak point and I think it is a very valid warning. As women, we get passionate about various topics or causes a lot faster than men do. Our passions are driven by our emotions, and we justify our desires and longings by them too. The weakness comes in when our passions do not match those of God, and we let our feelings get in the way of our better judgment. We often mistake our emotions for the heart’s desires and then question God on today’s verse. But the truth is our delight in the Lord should be our biggest passion.

Ever heard “I know… but I feel…”? Or maybe you’ve said these words yourself at some point. That phrase is a good indication of your emotions leading you to follow various passions instead of knowing and accepting the truth for what it is. Identify your emotions to identify this weakness.

A weak woman is governed by her emotions, but a daughter of the King makes her mind drive her emotions.

Prayer: Father, thank You for teaching us that our emotions can disguise themselves as various passions. Enlighten in our hearts the desire to delight in You and let us become passionate about You and for You. Give us strength to see this weakness considering our emotions and to take charge of them to keep our hearts passionately firm on You. Amen.
