Day 9 – Words, like rain, yield a return

Isaiah 55:11 “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”
Isn’t rain a wonderful gift? It soaks the ground and brings with it the promise of growth. The same with God’s word. Here God compares His Word with rain that does not return empty, but it accomplishes its purpose. What is the purpose of His Word? Firstly, it contains all promises for you and me to live victoriously.
Hebrews 4:12 describes beautifully the purpose and power of the Word: “For the Word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
When we speak the Word, we allow its energising, discerning, life-giving power to affect our lives. Speaking God’s thoughts continually will eventually yield a beautiful harvest of peace, blessing, life, fulfilled promises, etc.
Prayer: Eternal God, Creator, not only do You contain words of life and power, but You ARE the Word. Thank you that You come to us like the rain. What a beautiful thought! You soak my very being with love and life. Create in me the desire to fill myself with Your Word so that it will be present and active in my life, accomplishing your unique purpose for me. Amen.
