DORCAS

Dorcas was a disciple of Jesus, known for her good deeds and kind-heartedness towards the poor. In the Amplified translation, we read “she was rich in acts of kindness and charity which she CONTINUALLY did.

” So how fitting, that her name means gracious & compassionate. I am sure we all want to be remembered this way, but are we, like Dorcas, continually doing good toward others? “Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in (Gal. 6:9).”

Dorcas reaped more than she ever expected to reap!

We see that she became sick and sadly passed away. But all within God’s perfect plan and perfect timing. Because just like Jehovah Rapha (God our Healer) intended, all of this happened whilst Peter was visiting a nearby town. So God orchestrated this miracle to the dot.

The Christians in Joppa heard of all the miracles Peter performed in the neighboring towns, and therefore called for Peter’s assistance in this matter. They probably only expected Peter to bring divine comfort to all the grieving widows, and not to raise Dorcas from the dead. But we should never underestimate what God wants to do in us and through us. God brought Dorcas back to life, through the simple act of obedience by Peter.

So may we bring all our numb and lifeless situations before God, knowing that His plans are far better than our greatest thoughts of what He could do for us. He only needs our obedience, to perform the miracle. Trust God, and trust His timing for your life.
