Weaknesses of a Spiritual Hearer
“Don’t be stubborn and rebellious as Pharaoh and the Egyptians were. By the time God was finished with them, they were eager to let Israel go.” 1 Samuel 6:6
While growing into the gift of hearing, spiritual hearers can doubt what they are hearing and if they are understanding it correctly. Doubt can cause them not to act on what God is saying. (Doubt is not a lack of faith, it’s uncertainty in confidence) If you have doubt, don’t do it until you have confirmation. (Yes, you can ask God for confirmation on what you heard as Gideon did) Test this – when it’s God speaking, we normally don’t want to do it (like Jonah). We say things like “Do I have to go pray for this person?” If it’s not God we want to do it. “I want to do this for God” before you have any confirmation. Do I HAVE to our I WANT to is the simple way of testing yourself on what you are hearing?
- Spiritual hearers don’t always see the details of the big picture but live from moment to moment as they hear from God. It’s good to come to a standstill and ask God to show you the bigger picture of what He is telling you.
- The enthusiasm of a spiritual hearer can at times cloud the message. It can become overwhelming to give a prophecy to someone and your excitement might get in the way of the core of the message. Learn to pinpoint the arc of what the message is and communicate it to those who are hearing it the first time. Pray for peace and a calm heart to deliver the message.
- Spiritual hearers can operate independently and do not always need people to help them reach the goal. But we all need fellowship and the Body of Christ to be successful, mature, and responsible disciples.
Prayer: Father, I pray and ask that You will guide the spiritual hearers to use these weaknesses and turn them into strengths. Guide them with wisdom and grace during their journey to explore their gifts. Amen. ©
