Day 12 – Short term Biblical mentorship example

Queen of Sheba and King Solomon.
1 King 10:1 “The queen of Sheba heard about how famous Solomon was. She also heard about how he served and worshipped the Lord. So, she came to test him with hard questions.”
The Queen of Sheba wanted to confirm the rumours about King Solomon. Was he really that wise? And rich? 1 Kings 10:5 says she could hardly believe everything she had witnessed. She came with an expectation – a deep longing for the truth. To know the philosophical wisdom of life and how to manage the difficult part of kingship. More than that, she wanted to know, who the God he depended on was. At the end of her visit, she understood the wisdom with which Solomon ruled, was indeed from God: “in the name of the Lord”.
Biblical mentoring teaches us about the authority we have, and the power of the Holy Spirit. We are created to be vessels, instruments, and stepping stones to develop and teach others to their full potential in the Holy Spirit. God uses mentoring relationships to strengthen the faith of everyone involved and to help parties grow more into who He designed us to be.
Prayer: Father, You gave us good examples to be mentors to others: long- or short-term. Connecting people to build disciple-based relationships to mentor others and spread the message of the Gospel. Whether long or short, show us what wisdom and message You want us to teach or learn. Amen.
