Day 2 – What do You want me to do?

“So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” Acts 9:6 NKJV

Here we meet a Pharisee so devoted to the Mosaic Law that he prosecuted the followers of the resurrected Jesus Christ as his duty to the Jews. In an instant, God touched his heart and radically change his life.

I find it beautiful that the first thing Paul asked God was “What do You want me to do, Lord?” He might have had a million other questions but none was more important. Through these words, Paul demonstrated his readiness to do whatever God required from Him. Let us not forget that he was struck with blindness! He could have easily used this as an excuse to say “But Lord, You made me blind how would I be able to go anywhere?” Trusting God blindly – literally – he obeyed and went into the city to wait.

Paul’s life was upside down. Blinded and targeted for prosecution by the Pharisees too. Jesus’s followers knew him well and were afraid of him. Suddenly, Paul found himself in a very strange place not belonging anywhere… Except with Jesus. See, our circumstances shouldn’t dictate our readiness. What happened to us shouldn’t be used as excuses not to boldly proclaim the Gospel. Be ready in such a way that in everything that happens, we can ask “What do You want me to do, Lord?”

Prayer: Father, too often we use our daily circumstances as an excuse not to be obedient to Your Word. Even in his sudden blindness, Paul was ready to do ANYTHING for You. Thank You, Lord, that You touched Paul and for the beautiful work he did through his readiness to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I know now, through the words of Paul, that I shouldn’t allow anything to stand in my way and to ask: “What do You want me to do, Lord?” Amen.
