Day 36 – Deuteronomy: Moses’s second address

Reading: Deuteronomy 4:44 to Deuteronomy 29:1

“Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. For all these forty years your clothes didn’t wear out, and your feet didn’t blister or swell. Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.” Deuteronomy 8:3-5 NLT

During Moses’s second address to the nation, he reiterated the laws and regulations for moral and godly living as required by God. He recounted Israel’s disobedience, sins, and consequences. Obedience to God’s laws blessed the Israelites, and disobedience brought misfortune – part of the covenant God made with His people.

For us, who belong to God through Jesus Christ, build our faith and spiritual growth on this principle: obedience and disobedience carry inevitable consequences in this life and the next.

Prayer: Father, thank You for teaching us the importance of our obedience and that our disobedience carries consequences. Help us to be responsible for our actions and to seek You before making choices that will impact our life in the physical and eternal.  Amen.
