Day 6 – Daily Bread

Hannah prayed: “Those who were well fed are now starving, and those who were starving are now full. The childless woman now has seven children, and the woman with many children wastes away.” 1 Samuel 2:5 NLT

Mary prayed: “He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands.” Luke 1:53 NLT

The term “daily bread” has been important to the Hebrew nation since their trek through the wilderness a few thousand years before Jesus Christ included it in the Lord’s Prayer. God provided His people with manna they used to bake daily bread. Our ladies understood the importance of the physical provision of food as well as the spiritual implication to be filled with the spirit and satisfied in their souls with God’s provision of their every need.

When we pray and ask God to provide us with our daily bread, we’re not only asking for food for the day but to be filled with the Holy Spirit and expected satisfaction only can provide. Jesus said in His temptation that we do not live by bread alone but by the Words of God. The more we ask God for the bread of His Word we become more conscious of our spiritual hunger and we seek Him more and more.

Prayer: Father, please give us today our daily bread in all the forms we may need. May Your Word, first and foremost, feed our spirit and nourish our souls as we seek more and more of You in a deepened prayer relationship. Amen.
