Day 86 – Do not weep

Study Luke 8:51-53

Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, “Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. Luke 8:52

When Jesus arrived at the house, He permitted no one to enter except Peter, James, John, and the girl’s weeping parents. The home was filled with the loud, superficial grief of hired professional mourners, adding a heavy atmosphere of despair to the tragedy.

Stepping into the room, Jesus calmly declared, “Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.” He was not out of touch with reality; He simply spoke from a higher, spiritual reality that was far more powerful than death itself. Instantly, the mourners turned from weeping to scornful laughter, ridiculing Him because they knew the girl was dead.

Jesus had no patience for mockery or unbelief that sought to poison faith. He put them all outside, shutting the door on those who chose to laugh at the 𝘎𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦. It is a dangerous thing to adopt a cynical spirit of ridicule toward the things of God, for those who mock Him miss out entirely on the miracles He is waiting to perform.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, keep my heart far from the cynicism and mockery of this world. When faced with situations that look dead and hopeless, give me the grace to trust Your higher reality and hold fast to Your promises. Amen. ©
