Day 12 – You are my light

“Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.” Psalm 139:12 NKJV

Verse 11 continues the thought of darkness and light into verse 12 with a slight difference. We learned about God’s constant and eternal Light through Jesus who came to redeem us from the darkness and that even in the night (our spiritual darkness) Jesus is our beacon. Today we see the same concept except for the promise that darkness does not affect God: “Darkness and the light are both alike to You.”

If you bargained in the darkness to hide your sins from God, you are trusting a false refuge. Night cannot shut out the presence of God – night is not darkness to Him because God is absolutely inescapable.

Darkness and light, ignorance and knowledge, are things in relation to us. What is hidden to us by the darkness, or unknown through ignorance, is perfectly seen and known by God; because He is all sight, all hearing, all feeling, all soul, all spirit and in ALL infinite in Himself. He lends to everything and receives nothing from anything. Were we make differentiations in our minds between darkness and light, God does not. To Him it is the same.

God’s Word is not described as a lamp to our feet for nothing. It’s His Word that keeps us in the constant Light source of his presence guiding us.

Let’s pray: Father, I do not understand Your ways, but You understand mine. Not even darkness can hide from You so please forgive me for when I think I can. I want to be in the Light that is You, following Your lamp guiding my feet and knowing that in Your presence, I will never be in the dark again. Amen.
