Day 164 – Daniel: His Life

“But Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods.” Daniel 1:8 NLT

Read Daniel 1:1 to Daniel 6:28

While Ezekiel is ministering to the captives in Babylon, Daniel is drafted as a counsellor to King Nebuchadnezzar, where God’s plan includes favouring Daniel by giving him the gift to interpret two of the king’s dreams.

His three friends are rescued from certain death in the blazing furnace, and Daniel is rescued from a lion’s den. These men are inspiring examples for us of how to live godly lives in a sinful world. When we face trials, we can also expect God to be with us through them.

Daniel’s life is a reflection of faith’s triumph, dedication, and commitment. He remained resolute in serving God regardless of the consequences. He did not yield to pressure from an ungodly society because he had a clear purpose in life. So do we. It is wise to focus on trusting and obeying God alone as our true purpose.

Prayer: Father, please grant us this type of faith so that we may also live courageously each day. Choosing You above all else, and to be obedient even when we stand in the fire or stare at lions ready to devour us. Lord, thank You that through all the things in our lives, You’ve quenched the fires and closed the mouths of that which was ready to destroy us. Amen.
