Preparing the soil – Day 5

Footpath
“A farmer went out to plant his seed. As he scattered it across his field, some seed fell on a footpath, where it was stepped on, and the birds ate it.” Luke 8:5
“The seeds that fell on the footpath represent those who hear the message, only to have the devil come and take it away from their hearts and prevent them from believing and being saved.” Luke 8:12
In my garden I noticed little, delicate claw prints in the soil, and as I looked up, two doves were curiously watching me. I guessed they were looking for seeds that didn’t fell in the prepared soil – the seed that fell on the footpath.
As we learn from this parable, the seed is God’s beautiful word, ready to be sown into our hearts. But sometimes, some of the Word does not reach our hearts because the enemy takes it away, preventing us from believing. What a beautiful warning for us to be vigilant against the enemy stealing God’s Word from the soil of our hearts.
If you don’t understand a verse you read during Bible study, or part of a sermon you heard – don’t discard it. Write it down, pray about it or discuss it with a spiritual leader, until you understand the message God wants you to understand.
Prayer: Father, please teach me to be more vigilant for the seed of your Word. To look for it before it gets trampled on and to understand the worth of Your seed. Amen
